P-Day at the Auto Show!

Hey everybody!

This week was pretty good! We went on exchanges with the other Elders in the Branch/District, and I got to stay in my area with the DL's new companion. His name is Elder Tuia, and he is this super chill guy from Hawaii, but it's cool because he knows how to work. He is also 27, so he is a bit of an old timer. During the exchange, an interesting thing happened. We were tracting a street, and it was super cold/snowy/windy, plus I had to use the restroom pretty badly. So the thought to not finish both sides of the street we were knocking on was pretty tempting, especially because nobody was being receptive. But we kept it up, and it was interesting, because it was at the last few houses where we found some cool people that were willing for us to come back. It was a cool lesson on endurance/perseverance.
Just thought I'd share that. :)
We were able to go to the North American International Auto Show yesterday for quite a long (Like 5 hours) time! Totally worth it! I went a little crazy with taking pictures though... I took about 300 pictures of cars :) Elder Tuia set us up with somebody that he knows that got us free tickets, so that was pretty sweet! Saved a missionary $13 dollars! Of course, I was willing to pay that, plus my companion's admittance fee to go to a sweet auto show, but it was still really sweet to be able to go there for free! I also got a $15 dollar official NHL hockey puck for free while we were there :) The story behind that: I was with my district leader, and we were looking at a Red Wings/hockey stand, and they had these pucks and stuff there. So we were looking at some signed memorabilia that was pretty pricey, when the guy at the stand asked me if I put a puck in my pocket! I was like...Uhhh, no. Then he asks me if I was sure. So I pull out of my pocket my camera case that is black, and could almost be confused with a hockey puck if you just caught a glance of it, and the guy starts apologizing and stuff. I told him he was fine, and we go back to looking at the memorabilia. But then a little later, the guy hands me a hockey puck and says it is for accusing me of stealing, and that he would take care of the cost! My district leader was pretty jealous. It was funny.
So last week, our investigator Sister Edie, moved out of the Branch. It was pretty lame, because she was progressing well. But the other day, she called us and told us that she moved again, and asked us to check to
see if she was in the Branch again. Turns out that she is in the Branch and in our area by like half a block! Yay!

Anyways, thanks for reading :)

It's less cold now! Yay!

Hey everybody!

So this week was pretty cool. Actually the first part of it was stinking cold! On Tuesday, it was so cold (-40 wind chill) that the mission made us stay inside all day and study and stuff. The first couple of hours were fun, and then it got pretty dang boring. I mean, I love the Book of Mormon and stuff, but you can only read it for so long without getting burned out. Plus I was on exchanges with the District Leader, so I wasn't even in my own apartment. It was cool though :) It's like 80 degrees warmer now, so a little above freezing, so now it's more comfortable biking around. ;)

Transfer #9 started for me today. That's pretty crazy to think. (You have 17 transfers as an Elder) We had transfer calls Saturday night, and Elder Fox is staying with me for another transfer, so I'm happy about that!

We had a Zone Meeting this week too. The meeting was great, and the trip there was pretty terrifying. The Sisters in the district are the only ones with a car (it's actually a van, so the whole district can fit in it), so they drove everyone to the meeting. This was on Wednesday, so everything was still SUPER slippery, and the Sister that was driving, didn't really know how to drive in snow. When we were getting on the highway, we started sliding around, but somehow didn't crash. It was a stressy ride.

Our most progressing investigator came to church for the first time on Sunday, so that was great. She really enjoyed church, and is wanting to get baptized, so we're trying hard to help her get to that point :)

The other Elders in my district got shot at the other day, so that's pretty cool! ;) It's okay though. People in Detroit are lousy shots, and the Lord protects His servants, so we're safe :)

Anyways, that's about it.

Thanks for reading! :)

This is how you have to wear it so it doesn't flop around when you're riding your bike.

It be cold in da hood!

Hello everybody!

This week has been pretty exciting as far as the temperature and snow went. We got enough snow yesterday that they saw it fit to cancel church. That was super lame. I didn't think it was enough snow
to not have church, but what can you do. The temperature is also pretty stinking low. With the wind chill, it's like -20, and we have to walk in it because our bikes won't go through this much snow (Plus Detroit doesn't know what a snow plow is. They just know how to spread salt). It's actually not too bad.

But New Years was pretty exciting! We decided to stay up until midnight, because we heard some pretty crazy things happen in Detroit come the New Year. And holy cow!! It was crazy!! Once 12 AM came, it sounded like we were in a war zone. For like 15 minutes straight, it was just a non stop barrage of gun fire of all sorts. From shot guns to machine guns, and a few flash-bangs thrown in the mix. All of this was a little ways away, because while we are a live in Detroit, we are like 100 feet from a really nice city, so it wasn't as exciting as it could have been :) What was also funny, is that people were saying this year was pretty tame as far as the guns go.

So yeah, not much else happened this week. Probably because walking in a foot of snow takes a lot of time :)

Thanks for reading!

Here is a picture of what walking in a foot of snow, plus 20 mile an hour winds does to your eyelashes. It puts ice sickles on your eyelashes!

A Baptism!

December 30, 2013

I've been out 11 months already!?! That's so crazy!! Time is going by too quickly!!

But anyways, this week was pretty great! Christmas was pretty stinking awesome, and the best part was for sure being able to Skype my family on Christmas day. It totally made my week.
Christmas Eve was really cool as well. My mission had a Christmas party, where we did a cool service project making wooden toy trucks to give to kids that we felt could use them. We then had a bunch of musical numbers. Some were better than others, but it was still really good :) Our district did a musical number as well. I think it went okay. But who knows :)

For some unknown reason, our mission has told all of the missionaries to get rid of our backpacks and use these super dumb man-purse things. They look pretty...hmm, and they're super annoying. It wouldn't be so bad if you are in a car area, but with a bike it's a pain. It's only one strap. Think about it.
So I have been talking with some of my companions, both past and current, and I realized that I have gotten a baptism on my mission!! :) The super golden investigator that was in Riverview was somebody that I started teaching, and just a few weeks after I got transferred, she got baptized. I finally got a baptism!! Woo!! It feels good! Now I just need to get a few more :)

Hope you all had a merry Christmas, and I hope you have a happy New Year!
