Opening a New Area

August 6, 2013

So this last week has been pretty interesting. Opening a new area is a little strange. You don't have hardly anything to work with, because you don't know anybody and your Area Book is empty, so knowing what to do can be frustrating. The other missionaries in the Ward have been super cool though! They have given us some former investigator forums and stuff to put in the Area Book. I was a little unsure about how it would be to have Sister missionaries in the same Ward at first, but these Sisters are super cool! They are also pretty boss at basketball, and pretty much dominated when we played yesterday. It was pretty fun :) The Ward is super awesome too! The Elder that said there are only 100 active members was a little off. There are more like 150-200 (and 400+ less actives, but whatever). There are a lot of great people in the ward, and there are actually quite a few families with little kids! Soo different than Warren. The bishop is over 70 years old, but he is a total boss! And he is super excited about missionary work as well. Plus he loves cars! :) The Ward members are also pretty pumped for missionary work, which is great! They also have a dinner calender for us, and we have about 3 dinners a week planned with members! So far, I really like my new area :)
     Until next week!

  1. That's so awesome! Opening new areas/resurrecting dead ones was basically my missionary job.... What worked every time was getting a hold of a ward list, and highlighting EVERY single person you don't personally know (its so great when you have 400+people, cuz the day is crazy busy). After that go visit them and do something for them, even if its just sharing your favorite scripture. Usually the people you won't know are the inactive ones that have a lot of non-member contacts. You meet the greatest people this way, and you also help "inactives" become active again. Baptisms skyrocketed when I started doing this :) Good luck!

    With much love,
